To explore advantage traits ofPinellia ternatapopulationsforhybridization breeding, effect of parents on contents of guanine nucleoside (hereinafter referred as "guanosine") and total free organic acids (hereinafter referred as "organic acid") of the F1groups were analyzed usingrandom amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD) markers. Results showedthatgenetic distances (GDs)between 7 of the9tested F1groups and their female parents were smaller than those betweentheF1groups and their male ones.Heterosis for guanosine andorganicacidcontents of the F1groups were more affected by their female parents than by themale parents, and were significantly correlated with the GDsbetween the F1groups and their female parents; the correlation coefficientswere r=0.5258 and -0.6760, respectively.Furthermore, there is a significant correlation between the heterosisfororganic acidcontentsof the F1groups and theGDs between their parents;the correlation coefficientwasr=0.3212,indicating thatGDsbetween parents can be used to predict the heterosisfororganic acidcontentsof the F1groups.But the heterosisforguanosinecontentsof the F1groups does not correlate withtheGDs between their parents, indicating that theGDbetween parents cannotbe used to predict the heterosisforguanosinecontentsof the F1group.
