Screw Holding Ability (Sterength) of Wood Materials Used in Furniture Manufacture

摘要

In this study, the holding ability of three different types of screws to particle board, Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), werzalit and beech wood which are widely used for furniture production, were investigated. The holding direction of the screws to all materials surface were both parallel and perpendicular. The experimental results showed that on the perpendicular direction, beech wood materials showed the best screw holding strength and it was followed by werzalut, MDF and particle board respectively. When the screw holding strength is parallel to the surface, highest screw holding strength was also seen at beech wood materials and it was followed by werzalit, particle board and MDF. It was also seen that teh whole wood used in the edge of the particle board and the glue used in pilot holes are considerably increasing the holding strength of screws.
