Distinct Photoluminescence Enhancement of Supercritical Water Reacted Tin Dioxide

Intrinsic stoichiometric SnO, has no photoluminescence effect. However, it is found that supercritical water reacted SnO, show pronounced photoluminescence (PL) phenomenon. Thermal gravimetric analysis measurement reveals that a molar ratio (H,O : SnO, = 1 : 10) of water is introduced into the SnO, structure after the supercritical hydrothermal reaction. The mechanism of the PL is attributed to low-coordinated tin with oxygen vacancies caused by dissociative water adsorption. Moreover, the optical absorption spectra of the supercritical water reacted SnO, are matched by two configurations from ab-initio.
