Developing a user typology considering uni- and intermodal mobility behavior: a cluster analysis approach using survey data

The existing studies considering intermodal users mostly focus on a specific means of transport (e.g. Olafsson et al. (2016) on unimodal and intermodal bike use). Currently, a systematic and comprehensive segmentation of the full range of different intermodal users and their diverse mobility behavior is missing. For example, a person can be intermodally mobile in some situations and use unimodal modes in other situations in their everyday mobility. Hence, intermodal mobility behavior has to be seen in a comprehensive context together with unimodal mobility behavior. Since intermodal trips are less frequent than unimodal trips, typologies based on standard travel surveys using fixed reference dates often do not provide enough information about intermodal mobility behavior.
