Manometric Analysis of Patients with Obstructed Defecation Syndrome

Objective: To analyze manometric parameters in patients with Obstructive Defecation syndrome seen at the Coloproctology Unit of Caracas University Hospital. Method: Descriptive, quantitative and non experimental research. using retrospective and transversal observations. Data was tabulated and calculated using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), obtaining descriptive statistics and statistical relationship between observed elements. The group consisted on 41 ODS females with 3D echodefecografic studies at the Coloproctology Unit, Caracas University Hospital. Results: A decrease in Recto Anal Inhibitory Reflex (RARI) duration and necessary volume for induction was found as compared to normal values. Its shorter extension was observed in ODS patients with mucosal prolapse. Necessary volume decrease was correlated with Rectoanal intussusception and Anorectocele. Conclusion: RARI in ODS patients was decreased in its duration and necessary inductive volume, which could be related with subsequent alteration of sampling reflex and conditioning constipation in these patients. Significant differences were not found with respect to normal values.
