Novel biologically active glycosides from the aerial parts of Cephalaria gazipashensis

Two new triterpene glycosides, 3-O-eta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1o 4)-eta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1o 3)-lpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1o 3)-lpha-L-arabinopyranosyl olean-12-ene 28-O-eta -D-glucopyranosyl-(1o 6)-eta-D-glucopyranosyl ester (gazipashoside A, 1) and 3-O-eta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1o 4)-eta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1o 3)-lpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1o 2)-lpha-L-arabinopyranosylhederagenin 28-O-eta -D-glucopyranosyl-(1o 6)-eta-D-glucopyranosylester (gazipashoside B, 2), were isolated together with 11 knowncompounds including 7 triterpene, 1 flavonoid, and 3 iridoidalmetabolites from the aerial parts of Cephalaria gazipashensis(Dipsacaceae). The structures of all compounds were elucidated byextensive evaluation of the spectroscopic data (1D- and 2D- NMR,HRESI-MS), as well as chemical examinations. The antimicrobialeffects of all pure compounds were tested against gram-positive andgram-negative bacteria. The results indicated that the 2 newtriterpene glycosides might be acceptable as antimicrobial activeagents.
