Massive vaginal hemorrhage caused by cervical endometriosis

Cervical endometriosis, as a branch of endometriosis, has beenreported rarely. Many patients were asymptomatic and diagnosedby histopathology incidentally, only a few cases showing irregularintermenstrual hemorrhage and persistent postcoital bleeding oreven life-threatened hemorrhage [1,2]. Several theories have beenput forward to explain the cause of cervix endometriosis. Hoanget al. hypothesized that cervical endometriosis could develop inMüllerian rests, which persist in the stroma of the cervix [3]. AsSampson's menstrual reflux and implantation theory has been usedto account for endometriosis, the cervix may have chance to beimplanted by endometrial debris to develop ectopic lesions, espe-cially for the posterior lip [4]. Moreover, previous cervical trauma,such as cone biopsy, curettage and electrocautery, was widelyaccepted as a possible pathogenic pathway for endometriosis im-plantation [1]. The diagnosis of cervical endometriosis may bechallenging since the clinical symptom and gross appearance werediverse. In this article, we report two cases of cervical endometri-osis presented as massive vaginal hemorrhage.
