Gut colonization by antibiotic resistant bacteria has beenshown to decrease the overall survival of patients undergoing allogeneicstem cell transplant. In India infectious disease burden is among thehighest in the world and irrational and inappropriate use of antibioticspromotes development of antibiotic resistance. We analyzed our pre-transplant admission rectal swab culture reports of children with thalas-semia admitted for bone marrow transplant across two centers from India.
