It is not unusual, however, to encounter projects that require tension piles. Lateral loads from wind and earthquakes often create overturning, resulting in uplift on piles supporting the structure. When piles are subjected to uplift, connections are required between the pile and? pile cap that must be properly designed to resist tensile forces.
