The low-level jet for Bucharest's airports - a study of its characteristics in winter season between 1959 and 1982

The project ERA-40 from ECMWF was used at the National MeteorologicalAdministration in Bucharest, in order to obtain a re-analysis of the data valid forRomania, using the regional climate model RegCM3. The study is based on this re- analysis for classifying the synoptic conditions in which the low-level jet appears inBucharest" airports area. A statistical analysis was also undertaken. The results haveshown that LLJs can be organized in three main types and that the majority of the casesappear between 975 and 925 hPa for 3"2 hours, with a depth for the maximum windspeed of 10"0 hPa.
