ON THE HYPERICIN INTERACTION WITH THE ARTIFICIALLIPID MEMBRANE IN THE PRESENCE OF LYOTROPICANIONS

The modifications induced by hypericin on the electric properties of the artificiallipid bilayers suggest that it has apparent stabilizing effects on the membrane against strongchaotropic anions. We imply that this is due to the interference of hypericin" insertion into thebilayers with the mechanisms by which the lyotropic anions alter the electrical surroundings of thebilayer and/or the intrinsic membrane dipole potential.
