Olmesartan medoxomil is the latest angiotensin receptor antagonist approved by FDA for the treatment of hypertension. During the process development of olmesartan medoxomil6-9, one of the related substances (impurity) was observed along with the final API. This impurity was identified as olmesartan acid6-9. Present work describes the synthesis and characterization of this impurity2-4
