Interactions Between Herbs and Antidiabetic Drugs: A Systematic Review

Herbal medicine practice has gained acceptance around the globe especially indeveloping countries because of ease of accessibility, afford-ability, presumedsafety and the notion that it is without adverse effect. This is not necessarilytrue as herbal medicine practices have its own challenges and limitations soPhysicians need to know which herb their patients take along with antidiabeticmedications as some combinations may be beneficial, harmful or have noeffect. In this study, it was summarized the report available on the interactionof herbs and various classes of antidiabetic drugs whether pharmacodynamic(beneficial, harmful or no effect), pharmacokinetic (whether the herb affectabsorption, distribution, metabolism or elimination of the drug) and a briefdescription of the study.
