ThisstudywasconductedtodetermineinvitroascaricidalactivityofethanolicandwaterextractofroottuberRhoicissustridentataagainstadultnematodes.AdultwormmotilityinhibitionassaywasconductedusingAscarissuummodel.EthanolicandwaterroottuberRhoicissustridentataextractswereusedinserialdilutionsincluding4,8,16,32and64mg/mland;8,16,32,64and128mg/mlrespectively,paralleltoAlbendazoleandGoodwins#8217;controlsinthreereplicates.TenadultAscarissuumwereaddedtoeachconcentrationandcontrolsandincubatedat370Cfor48hours.Standardphytochemicalanalysismethodswereusedtodeterminethesecondaryplantmetabolitesintheextracts.Asignificantmotilityinhibitioninalldoselevelsthatwasdose-dependentwasobserved(F(5,53)=4.14,p=0.005;R2=0.90).Therewashowever,nosignificantinteractionbetweenmethodsofextractionandthedoseeffectonmotilityinhibitioninR.tridentata(F(10,53)=1.02,p=0.450).Theethanolicandwaterextractsmaximumresponsedidnotsignificantlydiffer(p=0.082)althoughtheirmedianeffectivedoseswere12.3and23.5mg/mlrespectively.R.tridentataextractshaveimmenseinvitroascaricidalpotentialsupportingitsuseinethno-veterinarymedicinealthoughanthelminticpotencyofplantextractsdependonsolventusedforextraction.Thereishowever,needtodetermineinvivoascaricidalactivityandsafetyforsustainableutilizationofthismedicinalplant.
