Toinvestigatetheconfinementtimeofthechicksinabrooderonproductiontraits,anexperimentwasconductedwith15hensandtwococksoflocalbreedattheInter-StateSchoolofVeterinarySciencesandMedicineofDakar,farm.Athatching,twoalternativeswereadopted:confinementofthemother-chicksfortwoweeksandweaningat4weeks(1)orconfinementofchicksweanedat2weeksfor4weeks(2).Thebirdswerefedoncommercialfeed.Theresultsshowedthattheconfinementofthechicksfor4weeksreducedthemortalityrateofchicks(40.86%)overtheentireexperimentalperiodandittook63CFAtomaintainevenachicktwoweeksafterweaning.Themeancyclelengthdecreasedfrom67days(M1)to61days(M2)andanimprovementoftheaveragenumberofproductioncycles(5.45vs5.98)andeggslaidperyearinthesameway.Theevolutionofthechickweightwassignificantinalternative2(279.08gvs244.6g).Itappearsfromthisstudythatthealternative2istheonethatoptimisesproductivityforhensandchicks.
