Dataonbirthweightof2365Mecherilambsbornbetween1978and2005recordedatMecheriSheepResearchStation,Pottaneri,TamiNaduwereanalysedtoidentifythefactorsaffectingbirthweightofMecherilambs.nbsp;Thelambingoccurredthroughouttheyear,howevermajorityoftheMecherisheep(76.2percent)lambedbetweenSeptemberandFebruarymonths.Theoverallleast-squaresmeansforbirthweightofmalesandfemalespooledoverparityandtypeofbirthwere2.30±0.02and2.18±0.02kgrespectively.Studyonnon-geneticfactorsrevealedthatthebirthweightwashighlysignificantly(P0.01)affectedbyperiodofbirth,seasonofbirth,sexofthelambandparity.Hence,effortsshouldbemadeforbettermanagementofpregnanteweswhentheclimaticconditionsarenotconducivetothem.
