Information needs of farm women related to dairy farming and home management in Ilam State of Iran

FarmwomeninIlamStateofIranplayanimportantroleinmanagingdifferentkindsofdairyfarmingandhomeaffairs.Itisproposedthatinformationforwomeninvolvedinanenterpriseisimportanttounderstandtheproductionprocessandtheeconomicsofproduction.About86percentofwomeninruralareasofIlamareengagedindairyfarming.So,thisstudyinvestigatestheinformationneedsoffarmwomenrelatedtodairyfarmingandhomemanagementinIlamstateofIran.ThestudywascarriedoutintheruralcommunitiesofShirvan-chardavoldistrictofthestateofIran.Asampleof125farmwomenwasselectedusingclustersamplingtechnique.Thesurveyresearchdesignwasusedfordatacollection.Datawasalsocollectedthroughinterviewschedule.Datawereanalyzedusingquantitativeapproaches.QuantitativeanalysiswascarriedoutwiththeSPSSprogram.Resultsshowthattheinformationneedsoffarmwomeninstudyareaaremostlyoccupationdriven.Farmwomenwerefoundtohaveaneedforinformationaboutdairyfarmingbutalsoforhomemanagement.Mostofthefarmwomendependonthefriends,husband,neighborsandothernativesourceslikelocalleadersandeducatedpeoplefortheirinformationneeds.Theirprimaryandmostimportantsourcesofinformationincludefriends,husband,neighborsandothernativesources.ThestudyrecommendsthatthefarmwomeninIlamstateurgentlyshouldbeprovidedwithaformalsystemofinformationprovisionliketheservicesofextensionpersonalandagriculturalinformationofficers.
