Genetic parameters for weight up to one year old in the Mediterranean buffalo estimated by Bayesian Inference

Theobjectivewastoestimategeneticparametersforbirthweight(BW),205daysofage(P205)and365daysofage(P365)intheMediterraneanbuffalorace,usingBayesianinference.ThedatausedbelongtotheGeneticImprovementProgramofBuffaloes,beingused5,169,3,792and3,883observationsforPN,P205andP365,respectively.Theyestimatedthecomponentsofvariance,heritabilityandestimatethegenetic,environmentalandphenotypiccorrelations.WeconductedbivariateanalyzeswiththeGibbssamplerforestimatesof(co)variance.Theresultsofheritabilityshowthatselectionatanearlyagewouldbesuccessful.ThereishighpossibilityofgeneticgainmainlytothedirecteffectonP205andP365featuresbyselecting.ThePNfeaturehaslowgenetic,environmentalandphenotypicassociations.TheP205andP365featureshavehighgeneticcorrelationwitheachother,allowingselectionatweaning.
