Reproductive efficiency of non-cycling postpartum ewes submitted to the male effect under tropical semi humid conditions

Theinfluenceofseparationdistancebetweenmalesandfemalesbeforebreedingseason(BS)onreproductiveparametersofnon-cyclingpostpartumewesraisedundertropicalsemihumidconditionswasevaluated.Femaleswereevenlydistributedintothreegroupsandisolatedfrommalesatdistancesof1000m(T1),300m(T2)and3m(T3)during30daysbeforemaleeffectonset.P4concentrations(#951;g/mL)beforeBSandonday9ofBSaftermalecontactwere0.62±0.14/3.35±0.31(T1),0.75±0.13/3.75±0.36(T2)and0.66±0.22/3.51±0.33(T3),respectively,whichwerelowerbeforeBSonset.Estrusweredetectedin100%femalesuntilthe33thdayoftheBS,whilemostweredetectedbeforethe10thdayoftheBS.Pre-ovulatorypeaksofLH(#951;g/mL)oftwofemalesofeachtreatmentwereevaluatedat42and82(T1),at22and46(T2)andat34and38hours(T3)afterexposuretomales,withmeanovulatoryfollicleof7.7±0.5(T1),7.5±0.2(T2)and7.6±0.4mm(T3),andmeannumberofovulationsof1.5±0.2(T1),1.6±0.1(T2)and1.4±0.1(T3).Pregnancyrateswere90.0%(T1),86.6%(T2)and90.0(T3)withprolificacyof1.30±0.4(T1),1.38±0.5(T2)and1.33±0.5(T3).Therewasnodifferencebetweentreatmentsforallevaluatedparameters.Inconclusion,pre-conditioningdistancedoesnotaffectmaleefficiencyandfurthersuggestsreductioninBSdurationto35days.
