ThecattlepopulationinIndonesiaremainsfarfromsufficienttofulfillthenationaldemandformeat.Tocopewiththisproblem,thegovernmentallowsandincreasestheamountofimportedlifecattleandfrozenmeat.Atthesametime,Indonesiapursuesself-sufficiencyformeatby2014,byincreasingthelocalproductionwithlocalbreeds.Ramboncattle#8211;originatingfromtheregencyBanyuwangiinEastJavaisoneofIndonesia#8217;snativecattlebreedswhosepotentialhasnotyetbeenfullyexplored.Thisstudyrevealsthesocio-economicimpactoftheRamboncattleandtheindigenousknowledgeofthefarmersinthevillageKemiren.Sixty-fivefarmerswereselectedandinterviewedusingaquestionnaire.Thedatawereanalyzedwithaninput-outputanalysisandadescriptiveanalysis.Thestudyshowsthatonaverageafarmerowned1.29±0.80headRamboncattle.Mostfarmersattendedtheirowncattle,insteadofprofitsharingwithashepherd.Moreover,Ramboncattlearemainlyheldasadraughtanimaltocultivatetheland.RamboncattlefarmersearnyearlyonaverageUSD188peranimalinadditiontotheiruseasaploughinganimal.TheincomeofUSD188istheresultofsellingtheanimalatthemarketaftertwoyearsoffattening.Thisshowsthatwiththecontemporarybuttraditionalmanagement,Ramboncattlearesocio-economicimportanttoafarmer#8217;shousehold.Thestudysuggeststhatthefarmerswiththehighestamountoflandhavethepossibilitytomaintaintwoextraanimalstoincreaseboththeirincomeandmeatproduction.Thosefarmerswhocannotincreasetheamountofanimalscanincreasemeatoutputbyimprovingtheirmanagementskillsoffeedingandreproduction.
