Genetic parameters in buffalo calves fed at full milk in beef production system in middle Magdalena region of Colombia

The(Co)variancecomponentsandgeneticsparametersforweaningweight(WW)andslaughterweight(SW)wereestimatedwith1021and346records,respectively,inthreebuffalo'sherdsoftheColombianmiddleMagdalenaregion.Thebi-traitanalyseswasdonethroughthemaximumrestrictedlikelihoodmethodwithaderivativefreealgorithmusingtheMTDFREMLsoftware.TheWWanalysesincludedthesexandcontemporarygroupfixedeffect,covariablesweredam'sage(quadratic)andcalfage(linear)andtheadditivedirect,maternaladditiveandenvironmentpermanentrandomeffect.TheSWanalysisincludedthecontemporarygroupfixedeffectandcovariableanimal'sage(linear)andadditivedirectrandomeffect.Thedirectheritabilitywas0.1and0.31forWWandSW,respectively.Thematernalheritabilitywas0.26forWW.Theheritabilitiesandgeneticcorrelationsforweaningweightandslaughterindicatedthepossibilityofnbsp;implementationofselectionprogramsinthebabybuffalobeefsysteminColombia.
