Acompletedietwasformulatedusingdetoxifiedneem(Azadirachtaindica)seedcakeandprocessedintomash,expanderextrudedpelletsandsteampellets.Thesethreedietswereevaluatedincomparisontoaconventionalrationina180-daygrowthandmetabolismtrialusingtwentyfourNelloreramlambs(18.81#177;0.51kg)dividedintofourgroupsofsixlambseach,inaCompletelyRandomizedDesign(CRD).Attheendofgrowthtrialthreeramlambsfromeachgroupatrandomwereslaughteredtostudythecarcasscharacteristics.Theaveragedailygainwassignificantly(P0.05)higherandcost/kggainwaslowerinpelleteddietsincomparisontocontrolandmashdiets.DMIwassignificantly(P0.01)lowerinlambsfedcompletemashrationcomparedtothosefedcontrolandpelletedrations.PelletingsignificantlyincreasedthedigestibilityofOM,CF(P0.05)andCP(P0.01).PositiveN,CaandPbalanceswererecordedonallthedietsandNandCabalancesweresignificantly(P0.01)higherinpelleteddietsincomparisontocontrolandmashdiets.TheDCPandTDNvaluesofthedietwassignificantly(P0.01)increasedbyprocessingtheNSCbasedcompletedietintopellets.IncreasedtrendinintakesofDM,DCPandTDNwereobservedinlambsfedpelletedrationsthanmashandconventionalration.Significant(P0.05)differenceswithregardtodressingpercentage,primalcuts,proportionoflean,bone,fatandedibleandinedibleorganswasnotobservedamongthelambsfedexperimentaldiets.Butincreasedtrendindressingandleanpercentagewithconcomitantdecreaseinproportionofboneandfatinlambsfedpelleteddietswasobserved.Hence,neemseedcake,anunconventionalfeedstuff,canbeincorporatedintocompletedietsafterdetoxificationwithoutanydeleteriousongrowthandmeatquality.Amongpelletingmethods,expander-extruderprocessingcanbepreferredoversteampelletingsincetheprocessingcostislesscomparedtosteampelleting.
