Taro(Colocasiaesculenta)leavesnbsp;werecooked,ensiledwith4%molassesorfedfreshtoF1(LargeWhitexMongCai)andMongCaigrowingpigsassupplementstoabasaldietofcassavarootmealandricebran.After7daysthepHintheensiledleave/petioleshaddecreasedfrom7to4andthenremainedstablefor56days.Intakeofcookedandensiledtaroleaveswassignificantlyhigherthanofthefreshleaves,andwashigherinF1(LargeWhitexMongCai)thaninMongCaipigs.Thetaroleavescontributed20%ofthedietdrymatterand46%ofthecrudeproteinaftercookingorensiling.Apparentdigestibilityandnitrogenretentionwerehigherinpigsfedcookedorensiledtaroleavesthaninpigsfedfreshtaroleaves.F1(LargeWhitexMongCai)pigsretainedmorenitrogenthanMongCaipigs.
