Thirtysixcrossbredmalecalvesofaverage18-20monthsoldwereusedtodeterminetheeffectsofinorganicandorganicformsofsupplementalcopper,zinc,manganese,ironwithdifferentdoselevelonperformance,tracemineralconcentrationinserum,nutrientandmineralutilization.Calvesweredividedintosixgroupseachhavingsixanimalsinsuchawaythatmeanbodyweightwassimilar(P0.05)amongthegroups.Eachgroupwasassignedtooneofthefollowingdiets.i)Control(C0)dietwithoutanytracemineralsupplementation.ii)Treatment(T1)dietwithinorganictracemineral@NRC(2000).iii)Treatment(T2)dietwithinorganictracemineraltwicetheNRC(2000)requirement.iv)Treatment(T3--)dietwithproteinatetracemineralorBioplextraceminerals(AlltechInc.Nicholasville,KY,USA)@NRC(2000)requirement.v)Treatment(T4)dietwithproteinatetracemineral@?ofNRC(2000)requirement.vi)Treatment(T5)dietwithproteinatetracemineral@1/4thofNRC(2000)requirement.Bloodsampleswerecollectedondays0,45and90todetermineserummineralconcentration.Ametabolismtrialof10dayswasconductedduringthelasttwoweeksofexperiment.nbsp;Bodyweightgain(BWG)andaveragedailygain(ADG)werefoundbetter(P0.05)intheentiremineralsupplementedgroupcomparedtoC0andT5after30daysofsupplementation.Mineralsupplementationimproved(P0.05)digestibilityofdifferentnutrientcomparedtoC0andT5.Mineralintakewasfoundsignificantlyhigher(P0.05)inT2followedbyT3andT4.Absorptionoftracemineralswerefoundsignificantly(P0.05)nbsp;nbsp;higherinorganicmineralssupplementedgroup(T3,T4).Serummineralconcentrationofzinc,copper,manganeseandironincreasedlinearly(P0.05)withtheincreaseofdaysduetomineralsupplementationparticularlyinorganicmineral(T3andT4)supplementedgroup.Soorganicmineralsupplementationhadanimportantroleingrowthperformance,nutrientutilization,tracemineralbalance,serummineralconcentration.Lowerdoseoforganicmineralshowedthesimilarresultasinorganicmineralwithrequiredamountthereforeitreducedexcretionasinorganicelementandthereforereducedsoiltoxicity.
