Biobankloven som tr?dte i kraft 1. juli 2003 regulerer innsamling, oppbevaring, anvendelse og destruksjon av alt humant biologisk materiale som samles inn i forbindelse med diagnostikk, behandling eller forskning. Loven har gjort forskere over hele landet frustrerte. I det f?lgende belyses sider ved biobankloven som er spesielt relevante for medisinsk forskning, som melderutiner, samtykkebestemmelser og overf?ring av biologisk materiale til utlandet. Artikkelen inneholder ogs? tips som kan v?re til hjelp for forskere som skal samle inn materiale til en ny forskningsbiobank.English summaryThe Norwegian Act on Biobanks entered into force on July 1st 2003. The act applies to collection, storage, use and destruction of human biological materials, whether obtained for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, or for biomedical research. The act has caused some frustrations among researchers. This article focuses on aspects of specific relevance for biomedical research, and describes the routines for obtaining informed consent, ethical evaluation and registration of biobanks, and export of biobank material to other countries. A piece of advice to researchers who plan to establish a biobank for research purposes is presented.
