Conocimiento y actitudes de los profesionales de la salud en la lactancia materna: traducción, validación y adaptación del cuestionario Child Care Provider′s Knowledge and Attitudes regarding support of breastfeeding

In our healthcare environment, the professionals responsible for the promotion of breastfeeding are midwives, nurses, nursing assistants, pediatricians, gynecologists and family doctors. The review of the studies published on the subject, makes it possible to establish the importance of investigating the knowledge and attitudes that health professionals in our environment have about the practice of promoting breastfeeding. In order to evaluate this knowledge and attitudes, valid and reliable instruments are needed that allow us an effective analysis of the data obtained and, even, to compare the data obtained from different health systems with different results in their actions. In other countries, different scales have been developed for the evaluation of breastfeeding knowledge of various professionals. Objective: The general objective of the research will be the translation, validation and adaptation of the questionnaire Child Care Provider’s Knowledge and Attitudes regarding support of breastfeeding in the Spanish context. Methodology: The translation-back translation method will be used to obtain an adapted version of the scale. The content validation of the first version in Spanish will be carried out after the back-translation, a pilot study will be carried out in a reduced sample of subjects, with similar characteristics to that of the study population, to evaluate comprehension, initial reliability and feasibility of the questionnaire in its preliminary version and, finally, the knowledge and attitudes of health professionals regarding the promotion and maintenance of breastfeeding will be evaluated.
