Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of modified Marmet technique on postpartum breast pain. Methods A total of 120 postpartum women with postpartum breast pain were randomly divided into the study group (n=60) and the control group (n=60), with a exclusion criteria of any postpartum complication. The control group was given conventional hand expression to relieve postpartum distending pain of breast, and the study group was applied with modified Marmet technique. The breast distending pain and hardness were evaluated at 24 hours after intervention. The incidence of areola swelling, breast skin condition, pain degree and breast feeding rate were compared between two groups. Results There was no significant difference in grading of breast distending pain and hardness between two groups at 24 hours after intervention. The incidence of areola swelling and skin flush were lower in the study group than those in the control group (P<0.01). there was no significant difference in breast feeding rate between two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Modified Marmet technique can effectively relieve the distending pain of breast.
