Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of acupoint application combined with enema and oral administration of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)on symptom remission and quality of life in patients with stage 3-5 chronic kidney disease(CKD). Methods 〓Totally 52 patients with stage 3-5 CKD who received non-dialytic treatment were assigned into the control group and the observation group, with 26 cases in each group. Patients of both groups received comprehensive treatment including kidney protection, blood pressure control and correction of anemia. In the observation group, combined therapies of acupoint application, enema and oral administration of TCM were carried out. The clinical symptom remission was assessed 10 days after treatment. The quality of life was evaluated by short form 36 health survey questionnaire(SF-36). Results 〓Compared with patients in the control group, patients in the observation group received a better symptom remission after treatment(P0.05). The scores of five dimensions of SF-36 scale were higher in the observation group than those in the control group after intervention(P0.05). Conclusion 〓The combined therapies of acupoint application, TCM enema and oral administration is potentially effective to relieve the clinical symptoms like fatigue, soreness and weakness of waist and knees of patients with stage 3-5 CKD, and improve the quality of life during treatment.
