Effects of moisture content on irradiated seeds of Lupinus angustifolius L.

Abstract Seeds of Lupinus angustifolius L. were conditioned to five different moisture contents and irradiated at three different doses. Germination was reduced in irradiated seeds only at the highest moisture content (24%). Rate of germination was retarded in the irradiated seeds of low moisture content (6% and 9%). Growth was retarded in all irradiation treatments. The effect increased with higher dose. Within any irradiation dose it was least at 12% and 16% moisture. Death rate increased with increasing dose in each moisture treatment. It decreased in each irradiation treatment with increase in moisture up to 16%. Critical dose and LD50 can be raised by appropriate conditioning of the seeds.
