Improving the system of governance for sustainable development of the oil companies is not impossible when considering approaches that must take into account the specifics of the management of sustainable development of the oil companies. Assessment methodology must realistically assess the condition of the enterprise, which would allow available to evaluate and track the dynamics of the company’s sustainable development.Currently, there is no single approach to the management of sustainable development of the company. The analysis of best practices in this field allows us to determine the most effective strategy for the sustainable development of the company is realized when the company recognizes the high status of the question (and this not only declared, but also reflected in the organizational structure and business processes of the company), and at the same time these processes in the formation and implementation of the strategy involved the company’s staff. Thus, the obvious need for a coordinating center that has sufficient authority.The article offers a method of evaluating the company in terms of sustainable development based on the grouping of indicators in three aspects: economy, ecology, social sphere. In assessing sustainable development in view of increasing the competitiveness index suggested complement sustainable development index of innovation activity. For the implementation of activities and effective management of the company’s sustainable development in strategic project management office should be introduced portfolio manager of the company who is responsible on the one hand for the interaction between the project management office and senior management of the company in terms of sustainable development, on the other hand – for the coordination of projects included in the portfolio of projects for sustainable development.
