摘要

In addition to the introduction of new methods ofnursing standards, one of the biggest advances madein the field of nursing in the second half of the 20thcentury was definitely the founding of nursing facultiesin developed countries worldwide. In the time of formerYugoslavia there were several schools of higher professionaleducation in Belgrade, Zagreb, Rijeka, Ljubljanaand Sarajevo, and afterwards the others were alsofounded. Nevertheless, the number of senior nurses wasdisproportionate when compared with the number ofnurses with secondary education, which certainly affectedthe quality of professional work and thus contributedto the development of the profession. Thecomplexity of care in the nursing profession and theneed to maintain competency and professional responsibilityhave forced many nurses to acquire the relevantknowledge at the related faculties (pedagogy, defectology,i.e. special education and rehabilitation or healthcaremanagement) in an arduous and indirect way [1].
