Stroke Salvage Using a Suction Thrombectomy Device and Tissue Plasminogen Activator

A 68-year-old female who presented tothe emergency department 45 minutesafter the witnessed onset of slurred speechand right- sided weakness. On physicalexam, she was unable to repeat her name,read, or follow commands. She had a leftgaze preference and flaccid right upperand lower extremities. Her NIH StrokeScale Score was 20. A non-contrast CTscan of the head showed a “dense” leftmiddle cerebral artery sign indicative ofacute thrombus.1 She was immediatelybrought to the Interventional Radiologydepartment for cerebral angiography andpossible acute stroke intervention. Arterialaccess was achieved at 1.5 hours afteronset of symptoms.
