State Medical Licensing Boards seekto ensure that physicians have the appropriatetools to provide high quality,patient-centered care in a safe environment.With this goal in mind, State MedicalBoards strive to enforce regulations inclinical practice, improve the administrativeprocess and integrate informationto improve the efficiency and quality ofpatient care. This issue raises the issueof, “Why do physician’s get in trouble?”The answer is not a simple one becauseeach complaint reviewed by the Boardof Medical Licensure and Discipline isunique. Physicians must be aware of thejurisdictional regulations of the Board,understand the origination and jurisdictionof the Board, the complaint process,the data representing “misconduct,” andtheir resolutions.
