Category:AnkleIntroduction/Purpose:The purpose of current study was to retrospectively analyze the clinical outcomes of buttress plate treatment of posterior pilon fracturesMethods:Between January 2005 and December 2009, 16 patients with posterior pilon fractures underwent buttress plate fixation. There were 11 males and 5 females and the mean age was 37.6 years (range, 23 to 62 years). Preoperative radiographs, CT scans and three dimensional reconstructions were used to evaluate the fracture patterns. On the basis of the extension of the fracture lines presented on the CT scans, a posterolateral approach or a combination of both posterolateral and posteromedial approaches were used to reduce and fixate the posterior malleolar fragments. Clinical and radiographic examinations were used for postoperative follow-up.
