Usingacomputationalpipelinebasedonsimilaritynetworksreconstructionweanalysedthe1133genesoftheemBurkholderiavietnamiensis/em(emBv)/emG4fiveplasmids,showingthatgeneandoperonduplicationplayedanimportantroleinshapingtheplasmidarchitecture.Severalsingle/multipleduplicationsoccurringatintra-and/orinterplasmidslevelinvolving253paralogousgenes(stand-alone,clusteredoroperons)weredetected.Anextensivegene/operonexchangebetweenplasmidsandchromosomeswasalsodisclosed.Thelargertheplasmid,thehigherthenumberandsizeofparalogousfragments.Manyparalogsencodedmobilegeneticelementsandduplicatedveryrecently,suggestingthattherearrangementoftheemBv/emplasticgenomeisongoing.Concerningtheldquo;molecularhabitatrdquo;andtheldquo;taxonomicalstatusrdquo;(thePreferentialOrganismalSharing)ofemBv/emplasmidgenes,mostofthemhavebeenexchangedwithotherplasmidsofbacteriabelonging(orphylogeneticallyveryclose)toemBurkholderia/em,suggestingthattaxonomicalproximityofbacterialstrainsisacrucialissueinplasmid-mediatedgeneexchange./p/div
