Investigando o Lixo: uma proposta investigativa para os anos finais do Ensino Fundamental Investigating the waste: an investigative proposal for the last years of elementary school

This work aim to identify the potentials and limitations of an investigative proposal about theproduction and disposal of garbage, with students of elementary school. The intervention wasconducted with 22 students in the seventh year from Colégio Estadual Doutor Milton Santos, located inJequié – BA, and the science teacher's of the class who participated as an observer of the proposal.Using the inquiry-based teaching has drawn up a plan of activities to be developed in the five meetingswith the class. The activities allowed the students to discuss in a participatory manner a way to quantifythe waste produced by them as well as to obtain an average daily production of waste in themunicipality in which they live. We also note that the students learned about different destinations towaste in order to minimize damage on the environment. Despite the limitations (difficulty of working ingroups, writing difficulties, little involvement in extracurricular proposals) the possibilities indicated byinvestigative approach on the issue of solid waste justify its application in the final years of elementaryschool, especially the construction of procedural and attitudinal contents.
