Based upon the concepts of traps, chimera and pathways proposed by Alfred Gell, Carlo Severi and Els Lagrou respectively, this bibliographic essay presents the characteristics, similarities and specificities of three approaches on art in contemporary anthropology. The work focuses on the ruptures created by these approaches, concerning the symbolic analysis that has long dominated the anthropological art studies. Breaking away from the conception of art as a symbolic language, the studies we analyzed emphasized, in different ways, the cognitive action of art in native contexts, privileging categories such as agency, efficacy, counter-intuitiveness, and presentification. In the conclusion, we demonstrate how these categories are applied to Amerindian Art through the work of Els Lagrou on Cashinahua Art.
