The identification problem of periodic systems isconsidered in this paper. It is demonstrated that the systemsthat have parameters with periodic behavior can be estimatedusing orthogonal functions; in this case the model can beapproximated by Hartley series in the continuous range. Themain advantage of using orthogonal functions is that thedifferential equations that describe the system to identify canbe transformed into a set of algebraic equations, facilitatingthe identification process. The proposed methodology was usedto estimate parameters in the main rotor model of a helicopter,with satisfactory results.
