The three chalcones namely (E)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-N-phenylacrylamide (INH-1), (E)-3- (4dimethylamino)phenyl)-N-phenylacrylamide (INH-2) and (E) -3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-N- phenylacrylamide (INH-3) were synthesized and their corrosion inhibition properties on mild steel in1M HCl was investigated using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization method, linear polarizationresistance (LPR) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. Potentiodynamicresults showed that, chalcones are act as mixed type inhibitors and adsorption of these compoundsfollow Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Nyquist plots indicates that the addition of chalcones increasesthe charge-transfer resistance (Rct) and decreases the double-layer capacitance (Cdl) of the corrosionprocess this reveals that investigated chalcones inhibits mild steel corrosion by adsorption on itssurface. Some thermodynamic and kinetic parameters also determined in relevance to describe themechanism of adsorption.
