Wind Energy Generation from Hotspots in Urban Areas

摘要

The main problem faced by the modern day world is the energy crisis. Although there is energy available in the form of sun, wind and tides, the current technology has not been able to utilize them to their maximum potential. In this paper, a theoretical method to harness energy has been proposed, wherein local hotspots, present between edifices, provide a streamlined flow of air with higher velocities, from which more amount of energy can be generated. The turbines used are of a micro-turbine, which not only provides the sufficient amount of power for a common household, but also does not occupy much space. To validate this process, wind speed at different locations has been measured using a digital anemometer, and the variations of wind speeds have been given along with the speed of the wind when flowing freely. Detection of these hotspots and implementing this concept in many urban areas will definitely decrease the dependence on non-renewable resources.
