Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a noninvasive medical imaging technique in which an image of theconductivity or permittivity of part of the body is inferred fromsurface electrode measurements. This paper describes the design, development and implementation of a low cost electrical impedancetomography system. A 16 copper electrode EIT system was designedaround a closed phantom tank for detection of abnormality present. A5 Hz alternating current of known value 20mA is injected in twoadjacent electrodes and the voltages are measured in neighboringpattern at every consecutive pair of electrodes. The output data setsare fed and then executed in MATLAB which is interfaced withEIDORS software to reconstruct the image based on the acquireddata for detecting inhomogeneities inside the phantom. The EIDORS(Electrical Impedance and Diffused Optical Reconstruction Software)is an open source software tool used in the MATLAB softwareandthissuite is used for the reconstruction of EIT.
