Incidence of deep vein thrombosis before and after tka without pharmacologic prophylaxis: A 128-row multidetector CT indirect venography study

Background: The purpose of this study was to document overall incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) before and after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In addition, we wanted to determine whether routine preoperative DVT evaluation was useful in establishing treatment strategies for DVT after TKA. Finally, we also sought to determine whether incidence of DVT differed between the patients with unilateral TKA and those with staged bilateral TKA in a single hospitalization period.
