Sildenafil citrate is a highly selective phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor. It is used for treatment of erectile dysfunction andpulmonary hypertension [1]. Sildenafil citrate is categorized inBCS class 2 so it is developed as a citrate salt to increase watersolubility (4.1 mg/mL) [2]. The conventional product has beendeveloped as a tablet dosage form. It is rapidly absorbed afteroral administration, but gives a relatively low oral bioavailabilityof about 40% and late onset of action [2]. Dry foam formulationtechnology is an alternative approach to overcome sucha problem. It is intended to enable a faster and more efficientdissolution by avoiding agglomeration and floating of nonwettedactive particles [3].
