A total of 951,600 new cases and 723,100 deaths due to gastric cancer occurred worldwide 1) . The number of elderly patients is rapidly growing worldwide. Although people aged 80 and older representing the fastest grow- ing subset of the population, the optimal management of gastric cancer is unclear 2) . To improve the gastric cancer treatment outcomes in elderly patients, it is necessary to evaluate the short-term outcomes and long-term survival of gastrectomy for gastric cancer in elderly patients.
