Although some patients with peach allergy have systemic symp- toms such as urticaria, cough, or anaphylaxis,'* most patients have only a local reaction such as oral allergy syndrome. In Italy, the severity of allergic symptoms related to peach ingestion has been pre- dicted using allergenic component-specific IgE (sIgE).’ The proteins Pru p 1, Pru p 3, Pru p 4, and Pru p 7 have been reported as the main causative components of peach allergy.” * However, allergenic com- ponents of peach differ between Japan and Europe. Patients having systemic reaction to peach in Spain* were found to be sensitized to lipid transfer protein, while patients in Japan had systemic reactions to mainly Pru p 7|, To date, no study has clarified which components of peach are important in causing systemic reactions among Japanese children. Furthermore, there are no reports comparing commercially available components to predict peach allergy severity in Japanese children with peach allergy. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the clinical features of peach allergy and confirm the usefulness of component sIgE to predict allergy severity in this population.
