Caracterización y análisis del proceso gerencial aplicado por los productores de maíz del Municipio Turén, Estado Portuguesa, Venezuela

A study based on technical and economic information concerning production units was carried out in order to characterize and analyze the management process developed by Turen maize producers. From the agricultural point of view, Turen is one of the most important municipalities in Portuguesa State. The final results show the predominance of an autocratic management style where producers act as owners and farm managers and carry out management functions without having formal knowledge or studies. Management functions were analyzed based on a technical questionnaire using a representative sample of maize producers from the mentioned municipality. Three management levels were identified. They were: Superior, with the lowest incidence percentage (9%); Sufficient, with 53%, the largest representation; and Deficient with 38%. A positive correlation was observed between management levels and physical maize production yields. Such results indicate that those producers that efficiently manage their production units, following a formal management process, obtain better results than the others.
