Determination of performance evaluation criterias in forestry organization: A Turkish forest district case study

Performance Evaluation has become a favoured topic in recent years. Particularly, there has been a remarkable augmentation of organizations using this kind of management agent for two decades. Although the private sector accepted the advantages of this management tool, there have been uncertainties in the public sector. Forests are managed by state in Turkey. As a public sector, performance evaluation approach requires a criteria set for the appraisal of the success of this system in the forest sector. In this context, this study has been carried out at twenty-three Forest District Directorates, which are located in Denizli, ?zmir and Mu?la Regional Forest Directorates that take part in the Aegean region of Turkey. Firstly, the performance criterion that has been developed occurred from fifty-two criteria in five different groups that can be used in the evaluation of forest engineers. After that, the forest engineers have grated the criteria that can be used in performance evaluation along with the 9-degree likert scale” should be used. In this way, ideal criteria set has been reached that will be used in evaluation of technique personnel in Directorate of Forest District. However, the group that has been considered important by forest engineers is the personal criteria in assigning promotion and performance evaluation. Technique, behavioral and functional criteria have followed this group orderly.
