Secondary productivity of macrobenthos from the Calanus sinicus over-summery area in the Yellow

Based on material collected from nine stations in the Calanus sinicus over-summer area in the Yellow Sea, from August 2001 and August to October 2002, the secondary productivity of the macrobenthos was calculated using an empirical formula of Brey (1990). The results show that in the research area the mean abundance of macrobenthos was 379.44 and 156.67 individuals/m2, the mean biomass in ash-free dry weight (AFDW) was 9.44 and 7.36 g /m2, in August 2001 and August to October 2002, respectively; the mean secondary productivity in AFDW was 9.64 g /(m2.a) and 6.42 g /(m2.a), and the mean P/B ratio 1.20 and 0.98, in 2001 and 2002, respectively. Compared with other areas, secondary productivity is higher than in the Bohai Gulf, the East China Sea and the other parts of the Yellow Sea; the P/B ratio is higher than that in the Bohai Gulf, lower than that in the East China Sea, and similar to the other parts of the Yellow Sea [ Acta Zoologica Sinica 54(3):436 – 441, 2008] .
