Changing Our Aim: Infiltrating Faculty with Information Literacy

Librariansarestretchedthinthesedays–budgetcutsanddecreasingnumbersareforcingustolookatnewwaysofdoingthings.Whiletheembeddedinformationliteracymodelhasgainedpopularityinthepastnumberofyears,itmaybetimeforanewmodelofinformationliteracy.Wemustarmteachingfacultywiththetoolstheyneedtoteachinformationliteracytotheirstudents.Ideasandexamplesofhowacademiclibrarianscanweaveinformationliteracyintotheteachingcultureoncampus,andprovideinstructiontofacultymembersonhowtoteachresearchandinformationskillstotheirclasses,areexplored.Bymeetingfacultymembersintheirusual‘learningspheres’wecanshowthemamoreholisticperspectiveoninformationliteracyandgivethemexamplesofhowlibrariescanhelpthemintheirownteachingandresearch,thusencouragingthemtotransfersomeofthatknowledgetotheirstudents.
