A Survey of Librarian Perceptions of Information Literacy Techniques

Teachingresearchcompetenciesandinformationliteracyisanintegralpartoftheacademiclibrarian’srole.Therehaslongbeendebateamonglibrariansoverwhatarethemosteffectivemethodsofinstructionforcollegestudents.LibraryFacultyatalargeurbanUniversitySystemweresurveyedtodeterminetheirperceptionsoftheeffectivenessofcommoninformationliteracyinstructiontechniques.Thesystemincludesbothtwo-yearandfour-yearprograms,aswellasdegreegrantinginstitutions.Thisresearchwasundertakenforthepurposeofbetterprioritizinginstitutionalteachingactivitiesinthecurrentacademicclimate.TheresearchshowsthatlibrarianswithintheUniversitySystembelievedthatinstructionalmodelswhichgivelibrariansmoretimewithstudents,particularlyhighly-engagedstudents,arethemosteffective.
